Upon entering the restaurant I was a
little hesitant. First of all, waiters. Second, nobody was
there. Third, and most importantly, buffet. 3 red flags in
my book. I had heard good things about this place, specifically
about the brisket, so I took the plunge. The huge fish tank and
fish (looked like a piranha) was noted as unique and added
flavor. Piranhas like meat and so do I! A good sign??
The place is quaint. A small family
style restaurant with smiling wait staff to greet you. I picked
out a table towards the back and began to look over the menu. Of
course I'm sticking with "The 3" (brisket, ribs, and sausage) but
wanted to see what else they had to offer (a lot). No Big Red or
Beer that I saw, so I went with good ol' fashioned ice tea (and, yes
Tom, they had sweet tea). I wasn't going to do it, but the
friendly waitress highly recommended the buffet saying, "its what we're
know for". They had what I was looking for, so I went ahead and
took her up on it.
Normally, I'm really scared of
buffet-type arrangements. The meat sits under warming lamps,
things get picked over, etc. etc. I have been burned before on
buffets, not knowing what to get (e.g., North Main). But I was
going to remain optimistic. Everything actually looked really
good! I loaded her up with the traditional order and went back to
test it all out.
Brisket was great! just like i had read.
Very juicy and flavorful. Sausage as well was good. Had a
good taste and snap to it. Ribs were a notch above average, on
the bottom end of the the 3. The sides at this place were
fantastic. My first trip i had the beans and slaw and then went
back to try a few of the other items. Everything i had was great,
and had that homemade taste. I wondered if G-ma was cooking back
in the kitchen. The sauce was pretty average. a good medium
thick sauce with a little tang and a little sweetness. Definitely
useable.
