| I was on a trip to Midland/Odessa for work and I called my partner
Tex for some research on some BBQ in West Texas. He came up with the
name if KD's in Midland so for lunch I turned my car around
in Odessa and headed for KD's. |
| I pulled up in the parking lot to the
former feed and saddle shop that has been there since 1950. KD's has
been in business for only 7 years so it doesn't have the history of some
but I wasn't about to hold that against them. You walk in the screen
door to the pit master standing in front of a warming pit with loads of
meat. I ordered the ribs, 2 pieces of jalapeno cheese sausage, 2 pieces
of German sausage, 2 pieces of the hot links (you can order them by the
piece or you can get the whole link) and a slice of brisket. |

I then headed to the cash register to pay
for the meat and potato salad. I usually order the potato salad or
the coleslaw depending on what the people behind the counter recommend. Next I went to the condiment bar for the usual sides and pinto beans. Sitting down at the bench to eat you immediately notice all of the décor
on the walls. It gives it an old feeling but it seems staged
since the restaurant has only been around for a few years. |
| I sat down to eat and immediately noticed the sausage was cold. The
taste of each sausage was decent but sausage certainly should not be
cold. The brisket had a good flavor but was a little dry for my taste. The ribs were the best of the bunch. The meat fell of the bone and you
could taste the smoke in every bite. The sauce was tangy and worked well
with the meat. The sides were good but the beans seemed to lack
something. |

KD's in Midland is a good place to stop when you are in West Texas but
it still doesn't stack up the best in Central Texas. |
