Serving Q since 1943, this is an old school style BBQ Joint.  No fancy frills, they just focus on cooking meat and feeding the lunch crowd....my kind of place and one of the best slogans ever with "Need no teef to eat my beef".

Located just on the West side of downtown Austin at 12th & Lamar, this place is easy to hit when doing business or hanging out downtown during the weekdays. MAKE NOTE...They're only open for lunch from 11-2:30pm M-F.  The place is pretty simple with a few picnic tables out front and a small dining area on the inside.  Walking in you know they've been doing this since 1943....I think every piece of meat smoked in the pit has left its mark on the walls since that opening day.   The walls smoked brown as is everything else tacked up on em.  The vibe here is textbook cool, homey, down to earth, the real deal.  The meat is the focus here.

.
No fancy rubs or marinades in their preparation, just the meat smoked over oak.  I can appreciate the simple approach, and based on the number of folks coming in for the few hours they're open, they're doing something right..  The dont serve ribs here at House Park, but they did have a pork offering in the loin.  Nothing really stellar here except for the funky old school vibe.   The brisket and sausage were a notch above average as was the sauce.   Everything else was pretty standard.

Bottom Line This is a great neighborhood place with history.  If you dont have a lot of time and just want that old style BBQ joint experience and feel, this place will hit the spot.    The food was a little better than average.  These folks have found their nitch and serve it well.....you've got to admire that!  and when your old and your teeth are falling out, you know there's at least 1 place in town that you dont need any "teef to eat beef".
